Volleyball Splits Tri-Match; Beats Mont Alto 3-1

Albright split today’s tri-match against Mount Aloysius and Penn State Mont Alto. The Lions beat Penn State Mont Alto 3-1 to pick up their fourth win of the year.

CRESSON, Pa. – Women's volleyball split today's tri-match against Mount Aloysius and Penn State Mont Alto. The Lions won the first match of the day against Penn State Mont Alto to pick up their fourth win of the season.

Albright has won their first four out of five games to start the year. The Lions have won twice on their home floor, once on the road and once at a neutral site.

MATCH 1: W, Albright 3 Mont Alto 1 (24-26, 28-26, 25-19, 25-22)

The Lions pulled off the reverse sweep over the Nittany Lions after dropping the first set. Each set was close throughout but the Lions battled in each and every set to come out on top.

Sophie Hampton had the hot hand for the Lions in the first match going for a game high 22 kills. Hampton came into play today top 10 in the MAC Commonwealth in kills and only improved on that mark after game one today.

Neve Straff and Rachel Etim rounded out the Lions offense recording double digits kills in the first match of the day. Straff finished with 17 kills while Etim tallied 12 of her own. The kill total for the Lion duo marks a new season high for each in a single match.

Paola Mejias recorded a new career high going for 50 assists in just the four sets played. Mejias recorded her 1000th career assist last season and only continues to climb the all-time Albright leaderboard. Mejias added four service aces to her stat line.  

Lindsey Korn led defensively with 16 digs and was followed by Mejias with 13 and Straff with 10.

MATCH 2: L, Albright 1 Mount Aloysius 3 (25-20, 25-27, 16-25, 21-25)

The Lions suffered their first loss of the season by dropping the second game of today's tri-match. After winning the first set, Mount Aloysius won the next three sets to take the match.

Rachel Etim tallied back to back games today recording at least 10 kills. Etim had 12 kills in game one and 10 kills in game two. Etim added four aces and four block assists.

Hampton was second on the team in game two with eight kills. Straff rounded out the top three with six kills. Hampton tallied 13 digs in an all-around solid effort for the Lion.

Winniffer Rodriguez was strong defensively for Albright tallying 13 digs, the most in an Albright uniform for Rodriquez. Mejias had 14 digs and 21 assists while Ryenn Mamrosch added 11 digs.

Albright will head on the road to Gwyneed Mercy on Wednesday, September 11. The game is set for a 7 p.m. first serve.
