Trent Mahoney has been named Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Wrestler of the week for his performance at the Blue Jay Classic this past weekend. Mahoney went 4-0 to win the individual title at 157 pounds.
Mahoney has won Wrestler of the week for the second time this season. Both Wrestler of the week honors have come in the past three weeks.
The graduate student remained undefeated, improving to 18–0 while winning his third straight invitational title to begin the year. Mahoney has won at the Alvernia Invite, Wilkes Invite and now at the Blue Jay Classic.
He dominated the Blue Jay Classic field, outscoring opponents 36-5 and never entering a third period. In the 157-pound final, the No. 7–ranked grappler pinned No. 19 from Wilkes in the first period to secure the championship.
Mahoney is nationally ranked at 157 pounds and has been nationally ranked since the beginning of the season. As the season has worn on, Mahoney has increased his national ranking spot by two spots since his preseason ranking of ninth.
