GLENSIDE, Pa. - A three goal second half proved to be the deciding factor as the red hot Knights of Arcadia University (10-4-1/3-0 Commonwealth) defeated Men's Soccer (5-7-2/0-2 Commonwealth) Tuesday afternoon by the final score of 4-0 in Commonwealth Conference play.
The win marks the fourth straight for the Knights who have only suffered one loss in their last eight matches. Albright entered the contest looking get over that conference hump and pick up their first win of the season; especially after Saturday's crazy back and forth battle with Elizabethtown College.
Unfortunately, the Knight's defense proved dominant throughout Tuesday's match limiting the Lion's offense to just one shot in the contest. Leading Arcadia's defense was Commonwealth Conference Goalkeeper of the Week Jeff Kratohwill who leads the team with an 8-3-1 record. His goal against average of 0.54 and save percentage of 88.5 both lead the Commonwealth Conference and his seven shutouts on the year is also a conference best.
For the Lions their defense was pressured all afternoon, facing a total of 16 shots from the Knights. Through the first 45 minutes of play, sophomore goalkeeper #
Billy Howard# led the red and white and totaled five saves, while surrendering one goal. In the second half freshman #
Ryan Barr# stepped in front of the net and tallied five more saves of his own.
The three goals run by the Knights occurred within a 13 minute window starting at 75th minute. Their first score of the day came in the ninth minute on a free kick. Four different players recorded goals in the win, and played a major part in the Knights eight corner kicks. Albright despite their best efforts throughout Tuesday's match was limited to just one corner kick.
Men's Soccer returns to action on Saturday when they host Lebanon Valley College at 2 p.m. as part of a Commonwealth Conference soccer doubleheader at Shirk Stadium.
