READING, Pa. - Insanity is a word some could use to describe what happened Saturday afternoon at Shirk Stadium between Albright (9-1/6-1 MAC) and Lebanon Valley College (8-2/5-2 MAC). Down 23-0 with about 20 minutes left to play in a game that had both NCAA and ECAC Postseason implications on the line, the Lions would score a total of 30 points, 21 of which in the final quarter to tie the game at 30-30 and force the first overtime game for the Lions since 2001.

In the first overtime period, the two exchanged touchdowns and extra points to go into double overtime. On one of the most spectacular plays seen this season, senior quarterback #Patrick Subers# connected with sophomore wideout #Scott Pillar# to give Albright a 44-37 lead. The Dutchmen then responded with a touchdown of their own, but instead of kicking the extra point they decided to go for two.

With a tremendous rush by the Lions defense, Lebanon Valley quarterback Caleb Fick was forced out of the pocket. On the run he tried to connect with Matt Donley on a low hard pass, however with great pass coverage by #Dave Harig#, Donley was unable to come up with the pass which ended the game with scoreboard reading 44-43 in favor of the Lions.

Albright who is now 9-1 on the year for the first time since 1997 totaled 461 yards of offense against the Dutchmen. Proving to be the true force behind Saturday's win was Subers who threw for a career best 362 yards, five touchdowns and was 22-for-37 with only two interceptions.

Subers main target in the win was Pillar who also had a career best day with 159 receiving yards on eight catches and three touchdowns. Senior #Nate Romig# was second on the team in receiving yards with 105 on eight catches and had two scores. With those two TD's Romig is now just one touchdown reception away from tying the all-time touchdown reception mark of 36 at Albright College.

On the ground Subers also led the red and white with 53 total yards, followed by sophomore #Josan Holmes# with 53 yards and one touchdown of his own.

Defensively, Harig played his best game ever in the Lions uniform totaling a sensational 19 tackles in the win. Harig's 19 tackles, 17 of which were unassisted set a new single game record at Albright. #Andrew Kibler# finished second for the defensive line with 10.5 stops.

For the Dutchmen, Fick totaled 208 passing yards and three touchdowns on a 13 of 19 effort. On the ground Charlie Parker led the run game with 139 yards and two touchdowns. Joe Brennan was Fick's number one receiver recording 108 yards on eight catches and two scores.

In what started off as a very bad first half for the Lions, Albright found themselves in a deep 16-0 hole going into the locker room. After the intermission, Lebanon Valley put up another touchdown to jump out to a 23-0 lead with 11 minutes to play in the quarter.

It took Albright just four minutes after the Dutchmen TD to finally end their scoring drought as Pillar made his first of three sensational catches to make it 23-6. A failed 2-point conversion kept the game at 23-6. After holding the Dutchmen scoreless on their next possession, the Lions looked to kicker #John Whelan# to close the gap on the scoreboard just a little more.

Whelan who was a perfect 5-for-5 on point after attempts after the failed two point conversion nailed a 36 yard field goal to make it 23-9. With the momentum starting shift in favor of Albright, the third quarter came to an end with the score stuck at 23-9.

Moving into the final 15 minutes of play, the Lions wasted little time scoring back-to-back touchdowns in the first four minutes of the final quarter. Donovan would then silence the Albright fans a little bit with 6:11 left to play on a 27 yard touchdown reception.

On probably the biggest drive of the season, Subers guided the red and white down the field to the Dutchmen's nine yard line. From there he connected with Romig to tie the game at 30-30.

Lebanon Valley did get the ball back one last time however, and Albright looked to stop them short. Unfortunately, in what proved to be the Achilles' heal for the Lions defense was the Fick, Joe Brennan connection. On three separate occasions and on fourth down, Fick connected with the very fast Brennan to give the Dutchmen a huge first down play.

Unable to pound the ball in for what would have been the final touchdown of the afternoon, the Dutchmen turned to Brittany Ryan for the game winning field goal. With a tremendous rush by the Lions defense, Ryan missed the game winner wide-right forcing the first overtime period.

Through the first overtime period, the two teams exchanged touchdowns to keep the score deadlocked at 37-37. In the second overtime, Albright started with the ball and on a great heads up play by Subers put Albright up 43-37.

Lebanon Valley came right back however and made it a one point game (44-43). In what would have given the Dutchmen a one point lead, a great defensive stop by the Lions on the 2-point conversion secured the victory for the red and white, and just as the ball hit the turf, the entire Albright bench stormed the end zone in celebration.

The win now guarantees Albright a postseason appearance, whether it will be in an ECAC Bowl game or in the NCAA tournament will be decided tomorrow afternoon. The NCAA will be announcing the 32-team tournament tomorrow afternoon between 3 and 3:30 p.m. on ESPNews (ESPNews can be found on DirecTV at channel 207 and on Dish Network at channel 142). The ECAC will be revealing this year's bowl games selections late Sunday night and will announce the selections Monday morning.
