READING, Pa. - Looking to get back on the winning track the Lions (2-3-2) earned a much needed victory over Penn State Berks (0-5) Thursday evening in Shirk Stadium defeating the Nittany Lions by the score of 5-1.
Guiding the red and white to the victory was senior forward #
Christopher Mignogna# who had two goals in the match. Albright also saw goals scored by #
Mark Yost#, #
Adam Toroniewski#, and #
Chris Tadley#.
The Lions dominated play throughout Thursday's non-conference match. Combined Albright tallied 19 shots, 12 of which were on goal. Penn State Berks was held to just eight shots all night.
Lion's goalkeepers #
Billy Howard# and #
Ryan Barr# combined for four saves respectively, while Nittany Lions goalkeeper Chris Beatty made seven saves despite having a broken hand, which he suffered earlier in the year.
Albright wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, as Mignogna made it a 1-0 ball game in the 11th minute on a perfectly placed cross by Toroniewski. It then became a 2-0 game on a header goal by Tadley.
Yost who is known for his amazing long throws placed the ball perfectly on Tadley's head, who then redirected down past Beatty. Before the first half came to a close, Albright netted just one more insurance goal. The team's third score of the night came from Toroniewski on a break away in the 34th minute.
After the halftime break, the Nittany Lions ended Albright's chances of a shutout on an Eric Moeller one timer from about 20 yards out. However the momentum that the Nittany Lions gained from the goal was quickly lost, as Yost made it a three goal game just a minute later.
Mignogna, who netted the night's first goal, ended the game with its last, this time on a perfectly placed shot to the far post. Tadley assisted on the goal after laying a through ball that squeezed by two Penn State defenders.
Men's Soccer returns to action this Saturday when they travel to Stevenson University for a 4:30 p.m. non-conference match.
