Box Score
CHESTER, Pa. – Led by freshman forward #
Gibrilla Conde#, the Lions (7-3/1-0 Commonwealth) opened up conference play with a huge win, as they defeated Widener University (4-6-1/0-1 CC) by the final score of 1-0 Friday evening at Leslie C. Quirk Stadium.
Conde's game winning goal came in the 14th minute of Friday's match, with junior #
Chris Tadley# assisting on the play. After dribbling the ball into the box, Tadley laid the ball off to Conde who was running in. Right as he entered the goal box, the freshman was able to get his foot on the ball and place it past the goalkeeper.
The early goal proved to be all that Albright needed as the Lions defense, which has struggled this season, completely neutralized the Pride's offense. Of the 11 shots taken by Widener, only one found its way between the pipes. Junior goalie #
Billy Howard# came up with the lone Albright save as he recorded his first shutout of 2010.
Albright totaled seven shots and two corner kicks in the match. The Pride tallied nine corner kicks, with none finding the mark. One thing was definite however, and that was that Friday's match was a physical one.
Combined, Albright and Widener were called for 35 fouls and were issued four yellow cards respectively. Friday's win also marked the first win for Albright over Widener since 2007. In that match, the red and white defeated the Pride by the score of 1-0 in Reading.
Men's Soccer returns to action on Tuesday when they travel to Gettysburg College for a 7 p.m. non-conference match.
