Lycoming Runs Through Football

Box Score

READING, Pa. – To say the homecoming game between Albright and Lycoming did not go as planned would be an understatement. The visiting Warriors (4-1/2-0 MAC) riding a three-game win streak, ran right through the Lions (2-3/0-2 MAC) on their way to 50-0 win Saturday afternoon at Shirk Stadium.

The shutout loss is the first for the Lions since 1998, when they were blanked by Widener 33-0. Saturday's loss also marked the first time in head coach John Marzka's tenure that the red and white dropped back-to-back games.

Albright as a whole struggled to get anything going on both sides of the ball. On the day the red and white totaled just 190 yards of offense, while surrendering 386 yards of offense to the Warriors.

A majority of those yards were the result of a solid Warriors' run game which is currently ranked in the top-20 in Division III. Senior running back Josh Kleinfelter totaled 147 yards in the contest on 27 carries and had two touchdowns. Four of Lycoming's seven TD's were recorded on the ground.

Trying to match his MAC counterpart was junior tailback Josan Holmes, who despite best efforts was limited to just 41 yards. Even though Lycoming had secured the victory, junior Clif LeGrand did not show any sign of giving up. The Maryland native rushed for 53 yards on nine carries to finish as Albright's leading rusher.

In the air, the Lions totaled just 90 yards, with sophomore Adam Galczynski totaling 54 yards on 7-for-11 passing. Freshman Ben Schaffle totaled 27 yards on 3-for-13 of passing.

Defensively, Eddie Mitchem led the charge with a game-high 10 stops, with Rob Mancinelli finishing right behind him with eight. For Lycoming, it was Jaime Reitzi who led the defensive line with seven tackles. As a team the Warriors defense earned a combined three sacks, six tackles for a loss, forced two fumbles, recovered three fumbles, and had two interceptions.

The biggest killer for Albright came in the opening quarter when the Warriors scored back-to-back touchdowns on their first two drives of the game. They then added two more touchdowns before the end of the first quarter to take a 28-0 lead.

After the halftime break, Lycoming put up 13 more points in the third quarter and nine in the fourth to record their first shutout since 2005.

Football returns to action next Saturday when they host King's at 1 p.m. As part of the NCAA Take a Kid to the Game children under the age of 14 get in free with the purchase of an adult ticket.
