Game Two Box Score

READING, Pa. - After a very busy week in Florida, the Lions (4-8/1-1 CC) returned home to take on Arcadia University (2-10/1-1 CC) in a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Kelchner Field. The red and white recorded a 5-2 win in game one, but dropped game two by the final score of 8-5 to split the series with the Knights.

Combined the Lions produced 17 hits in Sunday afternoon's doubleheader. In the opener, Albright tallied 10 hits behind the stellar pitching of Casey Lawrence to earn their first conference win of the year. Lawrence went all seven innings and allowed seven hits, two runs, and fanned nine Knights.  His nine K's gave the righty just enough as he took over as the all-time career strikeouts leader at Albright.  Lawrence is now sitting with 207 career strikeouts, which broke Tim Flannery's '09 mark of 205 from last season.

At the plate, Pat Brady kept his hot bat going picking up a pair of hits in his four at-bats. He also tallied one RBI and accounted for two of the Lions five runs. Tommy Canuso, Matt Kozlowski, and Nick Riegel each went 2-for-3 in the opener, with Kozlowski also picking up an RBI as well.

In the nightcap, Arcadia jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, which was then made just a one run game in the bottom of the first. A three run second inning gave the Knights some breathing room, and the solid pitching of Rich Schlamowitz held the Lions scoreless through the next three innings.

Arcadia made it a five run game in the third, and seven run game in the fifth. Albright's scoring drought ended in the bottom half of the fifth on an RBI single by Canuso which scored Lawrence.

After a scoreless sixth for both squads and top half of the seventh for Arcadia, the Lions stepped up to the plate looking to make a comeback. On the mound for the Knights in the seventh was Dan Manning, who had very tough time against the red and white.

Manning initially led off the inning with a walk and a double before picking up back-to-back outs. Even with the two outs, Albright did not let down even for a minute as they eventually cut Arcadia's lead down to three (8-5), before they surrendered the final out of the contest.

Sophomore lefty Tyler Storms was handed the loss in game two of the doubleheader, after giving up six runs on four hits through the first two innings of play. Schlamowitz was awarded the win after going six complete innings in which he struck out six.

Lawrence proved to be the hot bat for Albright in game two going 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Canuso continued his solid hitting in the nightcap going 2-for-4 with two RBI's.

The Lions will return to action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Arcadia for the rubber-match, which is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
