Dutchmen Blank Baseball in Conference Action

READING, Pa. - Led by junior pitcher Caleb Fick's 11 strikeouts, the Dutchmen of Lebanon Valley College (11-4/1-0 CC) shutout the host Lions (5-9/2-2 CC) by the final score of 4-0 Friday afternoon at Kelchner Field in a Commonwealth Conference game.

Fick, who went all nine innings Friday afternoon surrendered just four hits and one walk in the shutout victory. For the Lions, senior righty Casey Lawrence went seven complete innings and was hand just his first loss of the year. The McSherrystown native allowed four runs on six hits, walked just two batters, and struck out four.

Only three of the four runs scored while Lawrence was on the hill were earned. Classmate Joe Clark closed out the final two innings of Friday's contest, and surrendered four hits and had one strike out in his fifth appearance of the season.

At the plate, sophomore first baseman Tommy Canuso continued his hot hitting streak going 2-for-4 on the day with a double. To date Canuso has recorded two or more hits in the last four games, all of which were against a Commonwealth Conference opponent.

Also picking up hits for the red and white was junior shortstop Pat Brady and senior right fielder Mike Nolan.

For the visiting Dutchmen their 10 hits were fueled by second baseman Rob Schwartz who went 3-for-5 on the day with two RBI's. Dustin Deibert and Justin Witmer each recorded a pair of hits and one run scored. Witmer also had an RBI as well in the win.

Baseball returns to action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Annville for a conference doubleheader against the Dutchmen. The first pitch is scheduled for noon.
