Box Score
UNION, NJ - Looking to upset 3rd ranked Kean University (2-1) for a second straight year the Lions (0-2) returned to New Jersey for their second contest of the weekend. Unfortunately this year's result did not favor the red and white as the Cougars defeated the Lions 13-5 Saturday afternoon at Jim Hynes Stadium.
As a team the Lions totaled six hits on the day, while the host Cougars recorded 16 hits in the nine inning non-conference match-up. Overall the Lions managed to keep their nationally ranked rivals close through the first 3 ½ innings trailing only by a pair of runs (3-1).
However in the bottom half of the fourth, Kean exploded on the scoreboard scoring a total of seven runs to jump out to a 10-1 lead. They then added three more runs in the next inning to make it a 12 run ball game.
Down but not out, the Lions showed some life in the top of the ninth scoring four quick runs to cut Kean's lead down to eight. Despite their best efforts, Albright could not keep that late momentum alive as they lined out for the final out of the contest.
Producing at the plate for Albright was senior right-fielder
Mike Nolan who doubled in the sixth.
Shawn Walbert,
Rob Mancinelli,
Jon Raymond,
Pat Brady, and
Matt Pannella also made solid contact in Saturday's match-up.
On the mound sophomore lefty
Tyler Storms made his first appearance of the 2010 season, and made it through 3 2/3 before calling it a day.
Kevin Thomas,
Joe Clark, Kevin O'Neill, and
Kevin Butler each made appearances on the mound and combined for four strikeouts, while only walking four batters.
The Lions are scheduled to make their home debut on Wednesday when they host Neumann University at 3:30 p.m. on Kelchner Field.
