DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – It was another tough afternoon for the Lions (5-20) as they faced off against the Aggies of Delaware Valley College (10-13-1) in a non-conference match-up. The host Aggies fueled by 10 hits and solid pitching defeated Albright by the final score of 5-0 Wednesday afternoon at Frank Wolfgang Field.
A four-run fourth inning proved to be the deciding factor in Wednesday's non-conference game, as the two teams deadlocked at 0-0 through the first 3 1/2 frames. After the tough fourth inning, the Lions did not surrender the fifth and final run until the seventh inning.
Going 1-for-4 on the day for Albright was
Shane Stein,
Casey Lawrence,
Justin Danser, and
Shane Caricari.
Tyler Meckley who threw 1 2/3 innings on the hill was 1-for-1 at the plate, while
Michael Grantham went 1-for-2.
Getting the start on the hill was Stein who went the first four innings, allowing the four runs on seven hits. After him it was senior
Joe Clark who went 2 1/3 innings, followed by Meckley to close out the afternoon.
The Aggies were led by freshman pitcher Jim Calabrese who picked up his career shutout after allowing just four hits in seven innings of work. Closing out the final two innings of Wednesday's contest was Brian Hafer.
At the plate Zach Chodur and Dylan Saldutti each went 2-for-5 on the day. Kellen Jarrett was 1-for-3 but his lone hit drove in two of the Aggies four runs in the fourth.
Baseball returns to action on Friday when they host Messiah College on Kelchner Field at 3:30 p.m.
