Crusaders Use Late Rally to Down Baseball, 13-10

Box Score

READING, Pa. - With a seven-run seventh inning the visiting Crusaders of Susquehanna University (17-17) were able to battle back and defeat the host Lions (8-24) by the final score of 13-10 Tuesday afternoon on Kelchner Field.

Fueling the late inning rally for Susquehanna were back-to-back home runs, the first of which, a three-run shot, gave the Crusaders a 9-8 lead. The second home run extended their lead to 10-8 on a solo shot over the left field fence.

Despite the two home runs from Susquehanna, it was actually Albright who went yard first in Tuesday's non-conference match-up. Senior right fielder Mike Nolan, looking for the one thing that has eluded him throughout his career, finally got it in the form of a lead-off solo shot in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Nolan's homer actually fueled a three-run inning for the Lions and at that point gave them a 8-4 lead. Unfortunately, the seven-run comeback in the seventh proved to much for the red and white to overcome, despite cutting the Crusaders lead to three in the bottom half of the ninth.

Overall the two teams combined for 35 hits, with Albright earning a season-high 17. Individually, both Patrick Brady and Kyle McGee went 3-for-5 on the afternoon, and tallied four RBI and two runs scored respectively. Nolan went 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI.

Casey Lawrence, Shane Stein, and Justin Danser each recorded a pair of hits in Tuesday's slug-fest. On the base paths, Stein recorded three stolen bases, and touched home plate a total of three times as well.

For Susquehanna, their 18 hits were fueled by Corey Stirmer's 3-for-6 showing, which included two runs scored. Don Kirkland went 3-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored.

On the hill, Jordan Thomas picked up his first win of the season for the Crusaders after going 2 1/3. Sophomore Matt Rehrig was handed the loss after going 2 1/3.

Baseball returns to action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Ursinus College for a 4 p.m. non-conference game.
