Box Score
READING, Pa. - Hoping to get back on the winning track, the Lions hosted Moravian College (12-7) in a non-conference match-up Wednesday afternoon. Despite their best efforts, Albright (5-16) was unable to get the monkey off their back, as the Greyhounds raced past the red and white to earn a 9-4 win on Kelchner Field.
In what started off as another close contest for the Lions through the first few innings, quickly became a scoring spree for the opposition. After tying the game at 2-2 in the fourth, Moravian managed to put up three unanswered runs through the fifth and sixth frames.
From there, they jumped out to a commanding 8-2 lead in the eighth and then secured the 9-4 victory in the ninth. Despite trailing by six going into the bottom half of the eighth, the Lions tried to battle back scoring one run in each of the final two innings.
Even though the box score reads just seven hits on the afternoon, the Lions' bats made contact throughout the nine inning contest. With the exception of one inning at least one Albright player made contact in every single inning. However, the Moravian defense proved to be quite solid and kept Albright off the base paths.
Three Lion hitters recorded doubles in Wednesday's tough loss.
Jon Raymond recorded Albright's first double in the fourth, which drove in a pair of runs to tie the score at 2-2. The Lions second double came in eighth, when
Justin Danser connected and went deep to center field, driving in the Lions third run of the day.
Albright's final long ball belonged to pinch hitter
Shawn Walbert in the bottom of the ninth. Walbert did not drive in any runs in, but did score the final Albright run of the day.
For the Greyhounds their nine runs, all of which were earned, was fueled by 13 hits, and a 3-for-5 showing by Brad Bodine and Gregg Steinman. Bodine scored three of the Greyhounds nine runs, while Steinman drove in a pair of runs and scored one as well.
On the hill, each team featured a total of four pitchers in Wednesday's contest. For Albright,
Shane Stein was handed only his first loss of the season after giving up the winning run in the fifth.
Moravian's Kevin O'Keefe earned his second win of the year after surrendering two runs on three hits, through five complete innings. O'Keefe also accounted for three of the bullpens six strikeouts and walked three batters.
Baseball returns to action this Friday when they travel to Elizabethtown College for a 3:30 p.m. Commonwealth Conference game.
