Lawrence Named to NY-Penn League All-Star Game

AUBURN, N.Y. - On Saturday, righty pitcher Casey Lawrence '10 was one of four members of the Auburn Doubledays roster to earn a place in the 2010 New York-Penn League All-Star Game which will be played on August 17th at Richmond County Ballpark on State Island, N.Y.

Joining Lawrence at this year's all-star game will be catcher Carlos Perez, outfielder Yeico Aponte, and fellow pitcher Drew Hutchinson.

Since signing with the Doubledays back in June, Lawrence has been lights-out for the minor league affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays. Currently ranked fourth in the league with a 1.59 ERA, Lawrence also leads the Doubledays bullpen in wins (5), innings pitched (52.1), and walks and hits per inning pitched (0.90).

The McSherrystown native, who was a four-year member of the Albright baseball team, ranks second in strikeouts with 41. On the year he has started nine of the 11 games he has appeared in, and has only been handed one loss.

Hutchinson currently leads the Doubledays with 44 strikeouts, and has a 3.00 ERA. Perez boasts a team best .301 batting average and 31 RBI, and has started 29 games behind the plate for Auburn. Aponte ranks second on the team with a .297 average, and has tallied six stolen bases which ranks him second in that category.

Amongst the All-Star game festivities that will take place on August 17th, fans will also have the chance to enjoy a home run derby, team autograph sessions, batting practice, memorabilia auctions, a cap giveaway, post-game fireworks, and of course the all-star game which pits the American League affiliates against their National League counterparts.
