WELCOME TO THE LIONS DEN
Last season, the Lions went a perfect 5-0 at Shirk Stadium. Since dropping their 2008 home opener against Salisbury University the Lions have gone 9-0 in Reading. The last loss to a Middle Atlantic Conference opponent was on November 10, 2007 when they were defeated by Delaware Valley College in the regular season finale. Since the stadium's major renovation in 2005, the Lions have played a total of 25 games on their A-turf field, and have won 15 of them.
WHATEVER IT TAKES IN 2010
With the loss of so many key players from last year's record setting squad the 2010 edition of the Albright Lions has a mind set to do whatever it takes this season. The Lions have welcomed in over 50 newcomers to this year's roster, and with a solid core of veterans, this year's team will truly showcase a new style of Albright football. As in years prior, the Lions defense will once again be a force to be reckoned with, while on the offense fans will see a new quarterback taking the snaps this season.
ALBRIGHT IN DIVISION III
Last season, the Lions were ranked on both the AFCA and D3Football.com Top-25 Coaches Polls for the first time in program history. On the AFCA coaches poll, the Lions ended the season ranked 9th in the country, while on the D3Football.com the Lions were ranked 15th in the country for the first time in program history. On the 2010 D3Football.com Preseason Poll, the Lions are ranked 29th in Division III.
ODENWALT AND WHELAN TABBED AS PRESEASON ALL-AMERICANS
Prior to the start of the 2010 season, senior offensive lineman Matt Odenwalt and senior kicker John Whelan were named Preseason All-Americans by D3PRODAY.com. The honor was the first for both players. The duo is also the only two returning players from the 2009 squad that earned MAC All-Conference honors.
HERE COMES HOLMES AGAIN...
Last fall marked another solid year for tailback Josan Holmes. The Ambler native rushed for over 500 yards and 10 touchdowns. Now going into his junior season, Holmes has rushed for over 1,600 total yards and 22 touchdowns. In 2009, he also showcased his ability as a receiver totaling 43 catches for 335 yards and two touchdowns.
PLENTY OF OPTIONS TO CHOOSE FROM
The Lions quarterbacks will definitely have plenty of options to throw to this fall. With the return of Scott Pillar, Josh Bakala, Tyrell Drumgo, #Sean Caldwell, Jr.#, and Luke Wallace the Lions receivers' core looks to be as strong as ever, even with the loss of Nate Romig '09. Pillar returns as Albright's top wideout from last fall with 628 receiving yards and eight touchdowns.
RUNNING THE RED AND WHITE
This fall the Lions will once again look to their run game as key part of their offensive scheme. Much like the 2008 season, when the Lions rushed for 1,455 total yards and 22 touchdowns, the Lions will once again look to hand the ball off to a very strong and fast group of players like senior Drumgo and sophomore Ty Hughes.
GALCZYNSKI GETTING THE CALL
With the loss of Tanner Kelly to graduation, Coach Marzka has decided that sophomore Adam Galczynski will take his place in 2010. In his rookie season, Galczynski appeared in three games and was 2-for-2 when under center. His two passes combined for 29 total yards, with his longest marked at 17 yards. He also rushed the ball one time as well.
THIS SECONDARY IS FIRST RATE
Senior cornerback Josh Hare will be the foundation for the Lions secondary this fall. With the loss of Brett Gaul from last year's team, Hare will step in as Albright's go-to player in the backfield. Last season Hare finished second on the team in interceptions with three, and was amongst the top-5 tacklers with 58 stops.
FILLING IN ON THE DEFENSE
Helping to strengthen the Lions defensive unit this season will be junior Mark Bergery and senior Rob Mancinelli. Last fall, Bergery posted 39.5 tackles, while Mancinelli added 36 of his own. Bergery also tallied two interceptions, both of which came against Widener. Mancinelli totaled 3.5 tackles for a loss, and was credited with one sack as well.
ALBRIGHT PICKED THIRD IN THE MAC
For the second consecutive season, the Lions were picked third on the MAC Coaches Preseason Poll. Last year, after being picked to finish third, Coach Marzka the red and white went to a second place finish falling only to Delaware Valley College. The Aggies were selected as the team to beat in 2009, while Lebanon Valley College was picked second.
LIONS, TIGERS, AND BEARS
Even though there won't be any Tigers on the field this Saturday, there will be plenty of Lions and Bears. This Saturday's opener will mark the 14th time that Albright has taken on Ursinus since their first meeting in 1912. Each team has claimed three consecutive wins over the other, and have also shut each other out once as well. Ursinus however still holds the largest margin of victory over Albright, when they defeated the red and white 54-0 in 1915.

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
On Saturday, Bears' Head Coach Peter Gallagher will bring with him a veteran core of players who led earned a spot in an ECAC Bowl game last season. Senior quarterback Justin Decristofar is set to lead his team, after recording 2,329 total passing yards last season. On the ground Teddy Conrad returns as the Bears top rusher, while Ursinus' greatest strength will be in their receiving core with all four of their top receivers from 2009 back this fall.
URSINUS IN THE CENTENNIAL
The Bears were selected to finish third on the Centennial Conference Preseason Poll. After closing out 2009 with a 6-2 conference record, the Bears received 126 points and one first place vote. Johns Hopkins was selected as the favorite, followed by Franklin and Marshall College.
ALL SORTS OF CHANGES
One definite change fans will notice at every Albright home game, are the brand-new red uniforms the Lions will be wearing. On top of that some key players will be sporting new numbers for this season. Bakala will be wearing #1, Holmes will be wearing #2, and Wallace will be wearing #11.
