Men's Soccer Falls for First Time this Season

NEWARK, N.J. - After pulling out back-to-back wins to start the 2010 season, the Lions were handed their first loss of the year by Rutgers-Newark (4-1) by the final score of 4-1 Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field as part of the Scarlet Raider Tournament, hosted by Rutgers-Newark.

Netting the lone goal for the red and white was freshman #Gibrilla Conde# on an unassisted play in the 12th minute of the match. For the host Scarlet Raiders they scored a pair of goals in each half to earn their third consecutive win.

On the day, the Lions totaled 12 shots, six of which were on goal. Rugers-Newark despite only taking 13 shots in the match capitalized on their chances scoring on four of the nine shots that were on target.

In goal, #Ryan Barr# played the first 45 minutes and totaled four saves, while #Billy Howard# made just one save in the final 45 minutes of play. Scarlet Raiders' goalkeeper Jonathan Frances made five saves in the contest.

Rutgers-Newark also held a slim advantage over the Lion on corner kicks recording just one more than the Lions (4-3).

Men's Soccer returns to action tomorrow when they take on Drew University at noon on day two of the Scarlet Raiders Tournament.
