Lions Battle Back to Defeat Mighty Macs, 2-1

Box Score

Coach Pat Stanco gives his thoughts on Wednesday's win (15 seconds)

READING, Pa. - It was one crazy night in Shirk Stadium, as the Lions (2-0) hosted the Mighty Macs of Immaculata University (0-4) in their 2010 home debut. Led by #Chas DeSanto# and #Kory Reddick#, the red and white overcame a 1-0 deficit to defeat Immaculata by the final score of 2-1 Wednesday evening.

Both goals, which were the first of the year for both DeSanto and Reddick came in the 70th and 73rd minutes respectively. Assisting on DeSanto's game-tying goal was #Gibrilla Conde#, who was extremely busy Wednesday evening.

The game winning assist belonged to freshman #Shawn Murphy# who hit a perfect corner kick right to Reddick's head which he then redirected past the goalkeeper. As a whole the Lions dominated the offensive third of the field totaling 17 shots, seven of which were on goal.

Immaculata recorded just five total shots in the match, with four of them ending up between the goal posts. The Lions also led the contest in corner kicks taken with a 9-2 advantage.

In regards to what kind of match, Wednesday's home opener was, one word can describe it “physical”. On the night a total of 34 fouls were called between the two programs, and seven yellow cards were handed out.

Albright goalkeeper #Ryan Barr# recorded three saves to earn his first win of the season, while Chris Raudabaugh finished the night with five saves.

Wednesday's match was a high paced back and forth battle for all 90 minutes. After surrendering a goal in the 24th minute to Immaculata's Kameron Teel, the Lions regrouped in the second half.

The second the whistle blew to begin the final 45 minutes of play, the Lions jumped all of the Mighty Macs like wounded prey. They took shots from all corners of the field, including some from 30 yards out.

Knowing that the goal was coming, the Lions intensity increased with every passing minute. All of their efforts came to fruition in the form of the DeSanto goal. After a long delay, the Lions took advantage on a perfectly placed free kick by Conde which found DeSanto's foot.

Just moments later the freshmen duo of Reddick and Murphy connected on one of the most perfect corner kicks you will see in the game of soccer to give Albright the 2-1 advantage.

After that goal was scored, the Lions continued their physical and dominating play and held off the Mighty Macs until the final horn blew.

Now with even more momentum going into their next match, the Lions know they have a long road ahead of them. Starting on Saturday, Albright will play a total of five matches in eight days.

This long road ahead begins at 2 p.m. on Saturday when the Lions take on Rutgers-Newark as part of the Scarlet Raiders Tournament.
