READING, Pa – Led by a seventh-inning rally that ended with a walk-off three-run home run from Jon Raymond, baseball (5-16, 1-7 Commonwealth Conference) defeated Arcadia University (2-19, 1-10) by the score of 8-7 in game two of a Sunday doubleheader after falling in game one by the score of 14-5 at Kelchner Field.

The visiting Knights jumped all over the Lions in game one as they exploded for eleven hits while being aided by some poor Albright defense. The Lions took a 2-1 lead after the first inning as Tom Canuso had an RBI sacrifice fly and Matt Pannella ripped an RBI double into right center.

The lead didn't last for long as Arcadia put up four runs each in the second and third innings. Arcadia's third inning featured home runs by Kyle Jackson and Nick Petroski that helped expand the lead to 9-2.

Albright cut into the deficit in the home fifth courtesy of RBI singles from Raymond and JoJo Fischer. The Lions then made it a 10-5 ballgame in the bottom of the sixth on a RBI sac fly by Shawn Walbert. However, the Knights put up their third four-run inning of the game in the top of the seventh to expand the lead to 14-5 as they took the first game of the series.

Paul Labe III got the start in game one for the Red & White. He allowed ten runs in 3 1/3 innings, but only four of those runs were earned as shaky fielding cost Albright early on. Tyler Meckley came in out of the bullpen to pitch the final 3 2/3 innings while giving up three earned runs.

Jason Heryla picked up his first win of the season in game one as he pitched a complete game for the Knights while striking out three.

In game two, the Lions would be the first team to strike in their first at-bat. After Canuso brought in the game's first run on an RBI groundout, Raymond clobbered a three-run homer to left to give Albright a 4-0 lead.

Arcadia would gradually chip at Albright's lead until the top of the sixth. With two runners on and Albright holding a 5-3 advantage, Arcadia's Mark Bowman ripped a home run into leftfield to provide the Knights with a 6-5 lead. They would then add another run in the seventh to gain a 7-5 advantage.

Despite facing the two-run deficit, the Lions rallied in their final at-bat. JoJo Fischer singled and Rob Mancinelli reached on an error to set up a first-and-third situation with nobody out. Raymond stepped up to the plate and laced his second home run of the day off of Arcadia's Marc Gottfried to give the Lions their first conference win of 2011.

Doug Mace recorded the final two outs for the Lions in the seventh and was credited with his first win of the season in game two.

On the day, Albright was led by Raymond and Pannella offensively. Pannella had four hits and one RBI, while Raymond had the best performance of his career with four hits and seven RBIs in the two games.

Arcadia was led by Jackson and Petroski. Jackson had five hits and three RBIs, while Petroski recorded all three of his hits and all four of his RBIs on the day in game one.

Baseball will return to action on Tuesday for the series finale against the Knights in Glenside, Pa. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
