READING, Pa. – Facing probably one of their toughest opponents of the 2011 season, baseball (7-19) was handed a 26-5 loss to reigning Landmark Conference champions and 2010 NCAA tournament participant Moravian College (22-7) Monday afternoon at Kelchner Field.
Stacked with a total of 10 returners from last year's championship season, the Greyhounds combined for a program record 32 hits in 60 at-bats. Combined both teams featured 13 pitchers on the day, with the win going to starter Chris Soltys, who allowed just two runs in his four inning appearance. Monday's loss was handed to
Brian Kurtz, his second of the year.
Albright tallied seven hits on the afternoon, with freshman
Nate Peiffer picking up a double to lead off the bottom of the first inning. Peiffer continues to have a standout freshman season as he improved his average to .311 on the year. Senior
Justin Danser was just as hot going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Danser's .385 average ranks amongst the best in the Commonwealth Conference and his now 35 hits on the year is a team best.
Kevin O'Keefe was the only Greyhound to go all nine innings in Monday's game. In a record setting eight at-bats, O'Keefe tallied five hits, five RBI and two runs scored. Jon Baltz was second on the team in the hits column, as he went 4-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored.
Moravian wasted little time taking control of the contest scoring five runs in the first and three in the second. They then tacked on nine in the fourth, five in the fifth, one in the eight, and three in the ninth. The Lions scored three runs in the seventh and two more in the ninth before the end of the game.
Baseball returns to action on Thursday when they host Elizabethtown College at 3:30 p.m. on Kelchner Field.
