SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Led by senior
Matt Pannella and with a combined eight runs through the first three innings, baseball (8-22) recorded a 17-9 non-conference win over Susquehanna University (12-22) Monday afternoon at Bollinger Field.
Pannella, who is a having a career season, went 5-for-6 with six RBI and two runs scored to boost his average to .319. On the afternoon, the Lions scored their 17 runs, 16 of which were earned, on 23 hits. After the eight-run onslaught in the first three innings, the Lions scored two more runs in the fourth, and combined for seven runs in the seventh and eighth innings.
On the hill it was
Kevin Thomas who earned his first win of the season, after going four complete innings. During his four innings of work, Thomas allowed four runs on six hits, while also striking out on. He got a total of eight Crusaders to fly-out and three others to ground out.
Also producing at the plate for the red and white was junior
Tom Canuso who went 4-for-6 with an RBI and four runs scored.
Jojo Fischer and
Collin Hecker both picked-up three hits in Monday's win, while
Nate Peiffer,
Justin Danser, and
Collin Hecker each recorded two hits.
John Nedbal and
Pat Brady both went 1-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI.
For the Crusaders Justin Portzline and Ethan Rieker both went 4-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored. Joe Schurig was handed the loss after surrendering eight runs on 10 hits in just the first 2 2/3 innings.
Baseball returns to action on Wednesday when they host Ursinus College at 4 p.m. at Kelchner Field.
