MONTREAL, QUEBEC – In the programs second trip to Canada, football once again had a successful outing as they picked up a 35-1 win over defending Bol d'Or Finals champions Vanier College of Montreal, Quebec. The Lions used a combined 394 yards of total offense to improve to 2-0 all-time against Canadian opponents.
From start to finish the Lions controlled every aspect of the foreign tour game. As per the NCAA, Division III football programs are allowed to travel north of the border once every three years. In doing so it allows that team an extra 10 practices in full pads.
Sunday's contest was a solid test for the red and white which showcased a total team effort. On the offensive of the ball, the Lions dominated the air and the ground. Freshman quarterback
TJ Luddy got the start and went 10-for-14 with 132 yards passing.
Adam Galczynski also had a solid day under center as he 8-for-15 with 122 yards. Both quarterbacks threw for a touchdown.
On the ground it was
Uriah Brickhouse who got a majority of the action as he tallied 49 yards on 16 carries and had one score.
Zach Groff and
Marty Reinhardt also rushed for a touchdown in Sunday's match-up.
Caleb Shilko and
Daniel McNair combined for 131 yards and two touchdowns on seven catches respectively.
Defensively, the Lions saw
JT Harding record a team-best five tackles.
Donny Guido was next in line for the red and white with his four stops, followed by
Drew Peterson's three.
Keith Bruno and
Tyler Hamlet each recorded an interception. Combined the defense held Vanier to just 112 yards of total offense.
The Cheetah's lone point was the result of a safety in the second quarter following a punt into the end zone. Per Canadian football rules a punt must be returned out of the end zone no matter what, and if it is not one point is awarded to the kicking team.
Football officially begins its 2011 campaign on September 3 when they travel to Ursinus College.
