Box Score
Senior
David Folino had a pair of goals and freshman
Vitali Zaluha had a beautiful assist in his debut as the Albright College men's soccer team defeated Lancaster Bible at home 4-0, Thursday in its season opener.
Just 53 seconds after halftime, Zaluha froze the entire LBC back line with a no-look through ball right up the middle. Folino beat the goalkeeper to the pass and lifted a shot over him to earn his second goal of the night and put the Lions up by two.
Earlier, Folino had opened the scoring with a nice curling shot at the top of the box in the 8th minute, from sophomore
Tyler Waters.
Folino all-out play also earned him a yellow card and several warnings, but it was his intensity and work rate that allowed him to continue to harass the Lancaster Bible backline all night. In the 74th minute, he went on a solo run through several defenders on the right side of the box, ultimately flicking a shot just wide from 10 yards out.
Freshman
Taylor Walton earned the nod in goal and earned his spot with a point-blank save on
Jesse Fraser's open header from just yards out. Walton finished with four stops on the night.
Waters had nearly scored in the first six minutes when he fought through the entire defense only to have his chance touched away by Chargers keeper
Jarrod Bergey at the doorstop. Waters left no doubt in the second half however, as his curling shot beat Bergey to make it 3-0 Albright College.
The Lions weren't through as
Lamar Stewart added a highlight reel play of his own, looping a shot over the goalkeeper from outside the box to complete the scoring.
The Chargers rarely threatened outside of Walton's great save, but Albright defender
Mark Yost made a saving tackle to stop a dangerous chance just before halftime.
The Lions (1-0) host Penn College next Wednesday at 7 PM.
