Box Score
Behind two goals from
Tyler Waters, the Albright College men's soccer team defeated visiting Penn College 4-1, Thursday at Shirk Stadium.
#
Vitali Zaluha# and
Adam Toroniewski also scored in the game against a Penn College team that tasted defeat for just the 15th time in six years.
Waters gave Albright an early 1-0 lead for third consecutive contest, scoring the most impressive goal of Albright's season so far. His 35-yard blast from the left side snuck inside the far post, giving the goalkeeper no chance.
Less than a minute later, Zaluha made it 2-0 after converting a breakway. He nearly broke free again off a nice pass from Waters but the offsides flag went up.
Waters scored his second of the day in the 40th minute, skipping through the defense and lifting a shot over the goalkeeper. Albright's fourth came off a
Mark Yost free kick in the second half, which was flicked by #
Chris Bucks# and volleyed in by Toroniewski.
Bucks nearly converted on a bicycle kick from close range midway through the first half, but put it just wide left.
Albright may have dodged a bullet in the 35th minute, when goalkeeper
Billy Howard had to come out on a Penn College break and tripped up the man just outside the penalty area. The official only gave a yellow card however, and the Wildcats put the ensuing free kick chance wide.
Penn College did grab themselves a good team goal early in the second half.
Matteo Frazzoni slid a ball out wide to
Mitchell Pequinot, whose cross was headed in by a diving
Christopher Brennan.
It was all the Wildcats could muster however, while the Lions kept pressing forward. Freshman #
Joe Carrubba# ripped a shot off the crossbar, and sophomore
Chris Bette forced PCT's
Aaron Volz into a nice save from the left side.
The Lions improve to 5-1 and will host regionally-ranked Manhattanville on Saturday at 6 PM.
