Box Score
The Albright College men's soccer team lost a heartbreaker on Saturday night in Shirk Stadium, falling to Elizabethtown on a 90th minute goal.
With 25 seconds remaining in a 1-1 game, Albright keeper
David Oram made a nice diving save on
Zach Hollinger, but the rebound fell to
Ross Withrow, who smashed it in for the winning strike.
Oram had stopped Withrow with a reaction save in the final minutes after the Etown senior had an open header right at the back doorstep. On another late chance, Withrow just missed the upper corner from 20 yards out.
Albright leading scorer
Tyler Waters opened the scoring in the 48th minute, redirecting an
Austin Phillips cross into the upper netting. The lead lasted less than four minutes however, as
Zach Lee beat Oram to a cross and nodded it home.
The Lions had a majority of the chances in the first half. In the opening minutes, a low driven ball into the six by
Kiko DeLeon was palmed wide by the Etown goalkeeper.
21 minutes in, freshman
Storm Mathias won a header but it went right at the keeper. Less than two minutes later DeLeon looped a header on goal, but again it was caught.
DeLeon stayed active, whipping in another cross that very nearly caused an own goal, going off a defender's leg and just wide of the far post.
Nine minutes before halftime, the Blue Jays'
Adriano Maneo ran onto a ball and tried to pop it over Oram's head, but the freshman goalie got up to make the save.
Albright falls to 8-7, 2-3, while Elizabethtown improves its playoff standing with a 4-1 Commonwealth Conference record.
