HURRICANE SANDY COLLECTION:
At Saturday's game, LVC's cheerleaders will be coordinating a relief effort for those displaced by Hurricane Sandy. Fans can bring items to the blue GoDutchmen.com tent outside the stadium to be donated to an evacuation shelter in northern New Jersey. Those items needed include bottled water, non-perishable food, snacks, sports drinks, protein/cereal bars, and pet food, as well as household items such as baby products, hand sanitizer and antibacterial wipes, cleaning supplies, storage bins, and trash bags.
MAC PICTURE:
This game is for fourth place in the MAC, as both sides enter with identical 6-3, 5-3 records.
Widener (8-0, 7-0) had a cancellation at FDU-Florham last weekend due to Hurricane Sandy, but will still receive a forfeit victory if tie-breakers necessitate it. That would not help the ninth-ranked Pride however, as they need to beat defending champion Delaware Valley (7-2, 7-1) to clinch an automatic NCAA bid.
If the Aggies win, they would share the league championship with Widener and Lycoming (7-2, 7-1). The Pride would likely still get an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament, but the automatic berth would go to Del Val if they won by 16 or more points, or to Lycoming if the Aggies win by 15 or less.
ALL-TIME SERIES:
This is the 92nd encounter between the traditional rivals, with Albright holding a series advantage of 56-32-3. A victory for the Dutchmen traditionally results in a day off from classes for LVC students.
HEAD COACHES:
John Marzka is 43-22 since taking over at Albright, and has a MAC co-championship (2008) and National Coach of the Year award (2009) on his resume.
Jim Monos is in his 20th season as LVC's head coach, and currently has 93 career victories.
WEEKLY AWARDS:
The long list of Albright weekly awards continued last week as cornerback
Chris Stephens was named the MAC Special Teams Player of the Week and junior
Mark Capetola was included on the weekly Honor Roll.
Senior wide receiver
Scott Pillar was named both a BSN National Offensive Player of the Week and to the D3football.com National Team of the Week following his performance a week prior vs. Widener.
Pillar is the second Lion recognized this year by D3football.com, one of three national organizations to reward Albright players in 2012. Peterson was named by both D3football.com and BSN after two interceptions against Wilkes, and freshman kicker
Daniel Sobolewski was the ncaa.com National Special Teams Player of the Week vs. Stevenson.
The Lions have also won a number of MAC weekly awards this season.
Ty Hughes (week one),
TJ Luddy (week two) and Pillar (three times) have garnered MAC Offensive Player of the Week recognition, while Peterson (Defense), Sobolewski (Special Teams) and
Mark Krisak (Special Teams) also have MAC weekly honors in 2012.
ALBRIGHT OFFENSE:
Pillar, a fifth-year senior, now has 35 touchdown receptions after adding one last week against Misericordia, and needs three more to equal the school record of 38 (Nate Romig, 2006-09). Senior quarterback
Adam Galczynski stepped in for starter Luddy on his Senior Day and threw for 163 yards and two TDs on 15-of-21 passing.
ALBRIGHT DEFENSE:
The Albright defense held Misericordia to just two first downs and 38 total yards (11 rushing yards, 27 passing yards on three completions) in last week's 48-0 victory. One of Misericordia's two first downs was by penalty. It was the Albright defense's second shutout in four weeks; they also carried another shutout bid into the fourth quarter in that stretch.
ALBRIGHT SPECIAL TEAMS:
Stephens blocked two punts in the Misericordia game, including a first-quarter kick that led to an Albright touchdown two plays later. Sobolewski has made 26-of-27 extra points and 3-of-6 field goals, with all three misses coming from 37 yards or longer.
LVC SENIOR DAY:
Last Saturday the Lions recognized 21 seniors in their final home game, this weekend LVC will do the same with 13 graduating student-athletes. The football class of 2013 has been arguably the most successful in Lebanon Valley history, already winning a school-record 29 games, and looking for a record fourth consecutive ECAC appearance.
LVC OFFENSE:
Running back
Evan Fink has rushed for 14 touchdowns on the season. Senior
Leo Kyte is the starting quarterback, completing 109-of-190 passes for nine TDs and 10 interceptions. The Dutchmen are missing two starting offensive linemen due to injury- center
Sam Colletts and guard
Matt Clark.
LVC DEFENSE:
The Dutchmen have picked off 13 passes this season, with three LVC players contributing two interceptions:
Josh Borreli,
Derek Nye and
Zach Wierman. Borelli has also forced and recovered a fumble this year.
Kevin Smith leads in tackles (47) and sacks (2.5).
LVC SPECIAL TEAMS:
All-ECAC and All-MAC kicker
Sean Fakete has made 8-of-13 field goal attempts this season. Senior
Jerome Duncan blocked his second kick of the season last week, the second consecutive season he had a block against King's.
LIONS NEXT WEEK:
A win would put Albright in excellent position for an ECAC bowl berth, with those games scheduled for next Saturday, November 17. A loss would put the Lions at 6-4, a record that still got them selected last year but would be dependent on other teams' situations.
