Despite out-scoring Hood College in the second half, the Albright College women's lacrosse team couldn't come back from a four-goal halftime deficit, losing 12-10 on Wednesday in Frederick, Md.
Freshman
Meghan Wilson had a team-high four goals, while junior
Kim Harkins followed her historic opening game with a hat trick. Wilson added team-highs with six ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Nicole Rohrbach contributed with a goal and an assist, while
Tia Claxton and
Gabrielle Ceballos added one tally each.
The Lions were down 4-0 after just eight-plus minutes, including a quick hat trick from Hood's
Caitlin Lawrence.
The Red and White found their stride however, as Wilson scored twice and Rohrbach canceled out
Kati Vu's goal. Ceballos scored with 5:04 left it the first half to pull Albright to within a goal at 5-4, but the Lions allowed three more before the break and trailed 8-4 at halftime.
Wilson scored twice more in the second period, but the Lions still found themselves down 9-6 heading into the final 10 minutes. Twice Harkins pulled them within two goals, first at 9-7 and then at 10-8, but a free position shot from Hood's
Julia Banks restored the four-goal gap with 5:41 left on the clock.
Despite goals from Harkins and a late shorthanded strke from Claxton, the damage was done and Albright was handed its first loss.
Lawrence had five goals and an assist for Hood, while Banks scored three times and
Brigid Ayer added a goal and two assists.
The Lions are 1-1 and will host Immaculata on Saturday at 3:30 in their first-ever home game. Hood, who will face Albright in the Commonwealth Conference next year, is 2-2.
