Box Score
The Albright College women's lacrosse team fell 20-13 Thursday to undefeated Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
Freshman
Meghan Wilson had six goals and six draw controls, while classmate
Nicole Rohrbach added two goals and an assist.
Gabrielle Ceballos and
Tia Claxton scored twice each.
A potent Wilkes offense saw three different players record at least eight points-
Gabby Ford and
Keri Meerholz (six goals, two assists each) and
Carley Smith (4 goals, 5 assists, 8 draw controls, 7 ground balls).
Lindsey Davenport added a hat trick.
The Lions held their own statistically, winning 19 of 35 draws and equaling Wilkes in shots (35-35). The Colonels helped their cause by making 14 saves on the day (eight for
Cassie Cronin and six for Justine
Thimmel).
Albright led 2-1 early, after a pair of goals from Wilson in the first four-plus minutes.
Wilkes would respond with five unanswered goals however, before Wilson tallied again to make it 6-3 midway through the opening half.
The Lions made a run early in the second period, as Rohrbach scored twice in under a minute and Ceballos and Claxton followed to make it four straight and a 13-10 deficit. Unfortunately, the Colonels would record the next three points to keep Albright at bay.
Albright falls to 3-6 and will host the College of St. Elizabeth on Saturday. Wilkes improves to 4-0 after a pair of three-win seasons in 2010 and 2011.
