Nate Peiffer had the winning hit and freshman closer
Jared Neiheiser shut the door as the Albright College baseball team defeated Delaware Valley College 6-5, Wednesday in Doylestown, Pa.
With the game tied in the top of the eighth,
Max Dundore walked. The next batter was Peiffer, who ripped an RBI double for the go-ahead run.
Neiheiser came in and threw two shutout innings to earn the save. After
Mike Ferrier reached on an error in the eighth, Neiheiser got out of the inning on a grounder, then shut down the Aggies 1-2-3 in the ninth.
Peiffer was 3-for-5 with an RBI in the win, while catcher
Dylan Boll was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Patrick Makowski (2-3, 2 RBIs) and
Collin Hecker (2-5, 2 runs) also contributed at the plate.
A Makowski double in the second scored
Alex Myers and
John Medvecky to put Albright on the board, and Hecker's triple (his second consecutive game with a three-bagger) started a two-run rally in the next inning.
Down 5-0 in the bottom of the fifth, the Aggies got back in the game with a four-run output (all unearned).
DVC's
Jeff Sennett was 2-for-4 with a run scored, while
Jake Barben was 1-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.
Albright improves to 7-13 and will host Messiah in a Commonwealth Conference game on Friday at 3:30 p.m. Delaware Valley falls to 7-10.
