McDaniel Names Hoyt New Head Football Coach

Mike Hoyt, Albright College's longest-tenured football assistant, has been named the head coach at McDaniel College in Westminster, Md.

He will be the 24th head coach in the 117-year history of McDaniel football. The Green Terror, a Centennial Conference member, went 2-8 this past fall. In Hoyt's first season at Albright the two squads met in the 2004 ECAC Southwest Bowl, a 54-10 victory for the Lions.

Hoyt served eight years an an assistant with the Lions- he was the defensive coordinator and associate head coach under John Marzka, as well as being Albright's Strength and Conditioning coordinator.

Hoyt graduated from Canisius College in Buffalo, NY in 1992. He was a three letterman as a safety for the Golden Griffins. As a senior, Hoyt was named a CoSida Academic All-American, team defensive MVP, and voted captain by his teammates.

Hoyt began his coaching career in 1992 at Onondaga Central HS in N.Y. where he worked with the defensive backs and offensive line. He moved to Port Byron H.S. in N.Y. for the '93 season working with the running backs and defensive backs. After two years in the high school ranks, Hoyt returned to Canisius for the '94 & '95 seasons to work with the defensive line where he mentored Div. IAA All-American and MAAC Defensive Player of the Year Frank Zabawa.

Coach Hoyt moved on to DII Millersville University in the PSAC for the '96 & '97 seasons where he also coached the defensive line. In 1998 he joined the staff at Franklin & Marshall College coaching running backs before becoming the head coach at Solanco High School in Lancaster County for the '99 & '00 seasons. Hoyt returned to F&M as linebackers coach for '01 & '02 seasons and coached the secondary in 2003.

This past season, Hoyt was one of three finalists for the American Football Coaches Association Division III Assistant Coach of the Year award.

Hoyt and his wife, Katrina have three daughters: Britney, LiErin and McKenna. They reside in Lancaster, PA.
