Albright Baseball to Face Kutztown at FirstEnergy Stadium

The Albright College baseball team will play at FirstEnergy Stadium (home of the Reading Phillies) on Monday, facing local Division II opponent Kutztown University.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased in the Albright Athletics office, from players around campus, or at the gate on game day.

The two Berks County teams last played each other at FirstEnergy Stadium back in 2010. Kutztown, ranked #9 in Division II at the time, prevailed 18-4.

This year, the Golden Bears are 24-12 overall, and 9-7 in PSAC action. Shayne Houck is batting a team-best .377 and slugging .667 on the year. The senior has bashed six home runs while knocking in 31 runs.

On the mound, junior Tom Neely is 4-1 with a 1.66 ERA while working primarily as a reliever. Starter Dominick Ruscitti is 5-2 with a 2.59 ERA, and Jason Henderson has five saves.

The Lions are 12-20 overall but have won two straight heading into a crucial three-game set this weekend with another nearby opponent, Lebanon Valley College.

Three freshmen rank among the top-three on the team in batting average- Zac Okonski (.351), Dylan Boll (.343) and Max Dundore (.341). Senior first baseman Tom Canuso is batting .343 while classmate Jon Raymond has a team-high three homers.

Another rookie, Jared Neiheiser (2.35 ERA, 23 K's and three BBs in 23.0 IPs), leads the Albright bullpen. Three upperclassmen spearhead the starting rotation- senior Matt Rehrig (3-4, 4.96, 32 K's), senior Tyler Storms (1-4, 5.68, 23 K's) and junior Kevin O'Neill (2-1, 5.86).
