Despite knocking 14 hits of their own, the Albright College baseball team couldn't keep Lebanon Valley off the scoreboard in a crucial 20-10 Commonwealth loss on Friday at Kelchner Field.
Sophomore
Collin Hecker (2-5) homered, while freshman
Gabe Santone was 3-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored. Another rookie,
Max Dundore, went 2-for-6 with two RBIs and a run.
Senior
Matt Rehrig was again plaqued by unearned runs, taking the loss after allowing four earned but nine total runs in 6.1 innings.
Four Dutchmen homered and put up big numbers for the visitors.
Colt Zarilla was 3-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs, while
Aaron Mills went 4-for-5, knocked in a run, and scored four times.
Also contributing at the plate and launching round-trippers were
Jacob Rhody (2-4, 4 RBIs, 3 runs) and
Phil Dohner (1-5, 5 RBIs, 3 runs).
Jason Barthold took the win in relief, allowing one earned run in 4.1 innings.
Albright did rally twice in the game. Down 4-0 in the bottom of the third, Hecker launched a three-run blast. An inning later, Dundore singled in
Dylan Boll and
Nate Peiffer brought in Santone as the Lions surged ahead.
The Red and White grabbed another one-run lead after trailing 7-5 in the fifth. Santone doubled in senior
Tom Canuso, then came around on
John Medvecky's double. Peiffer singled in Dundore in the sixth to make it 8-7, Albright.
The lead didn't last however, with the Dutchmen bats piling on six runs in the seventh and seven more in their last at-bats of the day.
Albright is 12-21, 4-9 and currently trails fourth-place Widener by two games (with the Pride holding the tiebreaker), heading into a crucial doubleheader at LVC tomorrow.
