The Albright College baseball team managed just eight hits over two games at Lebanon Valley on Saturday, losing a doubleheader 2-1 and 12-3.
At 4-11, the Lions now cannot reach Alvernia (13-2), LVC (10-8) or Messiah (8-7) in the conference standings. They could mathematically still end up in a three-way tie for fourth place with Widener and Elizabethtown, but would not have head-to-head tiebreakers.
In the opener, senior
Tyler Storms was unlucky to take the loss, throwing a complete game and allowing just two hits, two unearned runs, and recording four strikeouts.
Collin Hecker,
Jon Raymond and
John Medvecky recorded Albright's three hits.
Derek Brousseau (4-2) threw a gem for LVC, scattering three hits and one run while striking out five over seven innings. The Dutchmen were held to just two hits by Storms, with
Phil Dohner going 1-for-2 with a run.
In the bottom of the fourth, Dohner scored on a throwing error but
Aaron Mills was gunned down at home. LVC would tack on another in the stanza to lead 2-0 however.
Raymond doubled in the top of the fifth and fellow senior
Doug Mace knocked him in to pull the Lions within one.
Max Dundore got to second base in the sixth, but it was the closest Albright would come to touching Brousseau the rest of the way.
In the nightcap, Dundore was 3-for-4 and scored twice. Three Dutchmen went 3-for-5 in the game: Mills,
Ryan Schwartz and
Jordan Witmer.
Corey Cinicola took the victory, striking out seven and allowing three runs (all unearned).
Albright led 2-0 after a top of the first in which
Tom Canuso knocked in Dundore, and
Nate Peiffer scored on a passed ball. It didn't last, as LVC scored three times in the third and four in the fourth.
The Lions (12-23 overall) will play Kutztown University on Monday at FirstEnergy Stadium.
