Baseball Splits Home Finale

Game One Box
Game Two Box

In game two, senior Matt Rehrig pitched six shutout innings as the Albright College baseball team split a Senior Day doubleheader with visiting Arcadia.

Rehrig got the win in the nightcap and first baseman Gabe Santone had a career-high five RBIs as Albright blanked the Knights 9-0.

Rehrig surrendered 6 hits and walked two while striking out four.

Santone landed large hits in the 3rd and 4th innings to lead the Albright effort.

An Albright rally fell just short in an 11-10 opening game loss, as the tying run was stranded at third base to end the game.

With Arcadia ahead 3-1 heading into the top of the sixth inning, the Knights put up a seven-spot highlighted by a few timely hits and a wild pitch that seemingly took the wind out of the Lions' sails.

Down 10-1, Albright responded with a big inning of its own, scoring eight runs highlighted by two extra-base hits by shortstop Collin Hecker.

Then came the decisive seventh inning. Albright closer Jared Neiheiser sandwiched a single to Arcadia left fielder Kyle Jackson in between two strikeouts, but Knight first baseman Jay Zehring ripped a single to right. The field umpire ruled that Albright right fielder Jon Raymond trapped the ball and Arcadia extended their lead to 11-9.

Hecker finished 2-for-5 with an RBI and run scored and was one of four Lions to notch two hits. First baseman Tom Canuso also recorded two RBIs in the loss.

Albright senior Tyler Storms pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing six runs (four earned) on eight hits, walking three and striking out two.

The Lions celebrated Senior Day, honoring Rehrig, Storms, Raymond, Canuso, Doug Mace, Brooks Mitzkewich and Paul Labe, III.

Albright finishes out their season against Division II opponent Kutztown University at the home of the Reading Phillies, First Energy Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
