Box Score
The Albright College baseball team scored eight unanswered runs in the sixth and seventh innings as the Lions defeated Susquehanna 9-7, Tuesday at Kelchner Field.
Seniors
Tom Canuso (2-for-4, 2 runs) and
Jon Raymond (2-5, 3 runs, RBI) led the way on offense, combining for more than half of Albright's run total.
The freshmen helped bring them around, as rookies
Dylan Boll (1-3, 3 RBIs, run) and
Zac Okonski (1-5, 2 RBIs) each knocked in multiple runs.
Down 3-0 in the bottom of the sixth, five Lions reached base safely before the Crusaders could record an out in the stanza.
Nate Peiffer singled and then scored on Raymond's single. Canuso and
Collin Hecker walked, and Raymond then came home on a passed ball. Boll singled score Hecker and Canuso and put the hosts in the lead before Susquehanna finally put a batter away.
Albright got one more in the inning, as
Jared Ruppert doubled in Boll to make it 5-3.
It was 8-3 after the bottom of the seventh, as Okonski's double plated both Hecker and Canuso, after Raymond had walked home with the bases loaded.
The Crusaders made it close with two runs in each of the eighth and ninth innings, leaving three more potential scorers on base. Hecker nearly ended the game with a glove flip to force a man at third, but the close play was called safe.
Jared Neiheiser finally got a flyout to center to end the game.
Paul Labe, III started on the mound and pitched great for two innings, allowing just one hit and striking out three. The decision ultimately went to
Tyler Meckley, who allowed two hits and two runs in 1.1 IP.
