Baseball Loses 12-Inning Heartbreaker to Alvernia

Box Score

The Albright College baseball team was four outs away from a big road upset over Alvernia but ultimately fell short in 12 innings, losing 8-7.

Jon Raymond gave Albright a 7-6 lead in the top of the eighth, singling in Alex Myers.

Closer Jared Neiheiser came on and got two outs in the eighth but a runner reached after a strikeout to prolong the inning as the Crusaders produced a two-out rally. Kevin Bailey stole second and reached third on a wild pitch, before coming in to tie on Nole Saylor's single.

The game stretched all the way to the bottom of the 12th, where the first three Alvernia batters reached, allowing Matt Patterson to score the winning run on Bailey's sacrifice fly.

Albright had led 5-1 early, but Alvernia scored four times in the bottom of the fourth to get back into the contest.

Raymond was 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Dylan Boll (3-5) and Collin Hecker (2-6) each scored once and knocked in a run as well.

Kevin Becker-Menditto earned the victory for the Crusaders, throwing four shutout innings of relief, striking out four and allowing just two hits. Saylor was 3-for-5 with 4 RBIs and a home run, and Aaron Carman went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Albright falls to 10-15, 3-4 and faces an important home doubleheader vs. Alvernia on Monday.
