Box Score
Despite a bright start the Albright College women's lacrosse team was ultimately beaten in its first-ever Commonwealth Conference game, 20-7 to Widener on Thursday in Shirk Stadium.
After
Arlena Diep saved
Amy Albano on the first shot of the game, Albright's
Tia Claxton got behind the defense and scored on a tricky changeup flick shot past the Widener goalie.
Freshman
Meghan Wilson then snuck through traffic and scored at 26:30 to give the Lions a 2-0 advantage.
The start was short lived however, as
Jen Harnden finished a one-touch shot from
Julia Costello, and Costello scored to make it 3-2 Widener after she hit the post and Albano chased down the rebound. In all, the Pride would score eight unanswered goals after Albright's 2-0 opening.
Wilson became the first Lion to record double-digit draw controls, as she finished with 11. She also had a hat trick.
Kim Harkins and Claxton scored twice each.
Harkins finally got Albright's third with 16:17 left in the first half, bouncing a shot off the corner of the bar and in. Diep then made a nice low save on
Melissa Sailey, right off the draw.
With 12:13 left, Harkins had a shot tipped over but Wilson was behind for the rebound, taking it around for a goal that made it 10-4 Pride. The visitors scored the last four goals of the half however, to lead by double-digits at halftime.
Costello totaled eight points (6g, 2a) and won six draw controls despite Wilson's dominating performance in that category.
Rachel Porter scored once and added a game-high five assists.
Albright is 4-8, 0-1 and will host Elizabethtown on April 14. Widener (5-4, 1-0) hosts Alvernia on April 10.
