Box Score
Several late chances fell short as the Albright College field hockey team dropped a tough 2-1 decision to Lebanon Valley, Wednesday in Shirk Stadium.
Senior
Alyssa Tourdot finally played her first home game of 2013 after returning from injury, and the 16-goal scorer from last season recorded her first of the year to give Albright a first half lead.
LVC leading scorer
Lyndee Scheaffer struck twice in the second half, both after her initial chances were saved, to give the Dutchmen the lead.
Albright appeared to tie it up with 9:30 left on a well-executed penalty corner.
Samantha Martin fed
Sam Chichearo on the right side, who hit
Amanda Smith with a pass. Smith's shot was knocked in at the post by freshman
Morgan Raneiri, but after a discussion the officials ruled that the ball had struck her leg first.
Smith, who had assisted on Tourdot's goal, then had a great chance with just over a minute remaining. She turned a defender and had the goalie beat, but LVC's
Kristen Garman's preserved the lead with a defensive save.
On Scheaffer's first goal, her shot was kicked by goalie
Marguerite DeLucas but fell right back to the LVC forward to slot into the left corner.
Scheaffer later had a deflected effort that resulted in a great kick save by DeLucas. After a scramble the ball ended up back on Scheaffer's stick however, and the sophomore lofted a shot over DeLucas for the 2-1 lead.
Freshman
Kendra Delgado made two good defensive plays late, one of
Molly Van Leuvan and then later with Scheaffer nearly through on a breakaway.
DeLucas made a tough blocker save early in the first half to deny
Megan Arnst, and finished with seven saves.
The Lions are 5-7, 1-2 and will travel to Widener on Saturday.
