Box Score
After a grueling 18 hour bus ride, extra innings was not an option as a weary Albright College baseball team scored late to defeat Delaware Valley 5-4 to start a week of baseball in Fort Pierce, Florida.
Lions starter
Kevin O'Neill pitched 6.2 strong innings, giving up two runs on five hits, allowing only one walk, and striking out four to earn the win. O'Neill made a nice play in the second inning, snagging a liner out of the air and throwing out the runner at second to complete the inning ending double play.
The Aggies jumped out to an early lead scoring a run in the bottom of the first.
Pete O'Hara led off the inning bunting for a hit down the third baseline. He stole second, then advanced to third and scored on ground outs to second.
The Lions put four up in the third to take a lead that they would not relinquish. Leftfielder
Collin Hecker started the inning off by reaching on an infield single to the hole at short. Freshman
Evan High singled to drive Hecker in, who had stolen second and advanced to third when
Dylan Boll reached on an error. After
Zac Okonski singled to load the bases,
John Medvecky drove in two runs with an RBI single.
Alex Myers drove in a run on a ground out that deflected off of the first baseman's glove right to the second baseman.
After getting a run back in the 7th to make it a 4-2 game, the Aggies scored two unearned runs that came off two hits and two errors in the bottom of the 8th to tie it up.
All tied up in the ninth Albright retook the lead when
Max Dundore drove in the game winning run on a line drive to left, driving in
Brandon Triantos from third.
Freshman
Doug Franks finished the game for the Lions, earning his first collegiate victory.
