The Albright College baseball team scored in every nightcap inning but one, splitting a doubleheader with St. Mary's (Md.) 1-11 and 7-3 on Tuesday in Ft. Pierce, Fla.
Junior
Collin Hecker was 3-for-4 with an RBI and scored three times in the Lions' victory. Sophomore
Alex Myers (1-for-2) scored two runs.
Freshman pitcher
Doug Franks went seven innings, allowing six hits in the complete game victory.
The Lions crossed the plate in every stanza except the second, taking a 2-0 lead in the first. Hecker doubled in
Mark Minnig, and then scored on
Gabe Santone's hit.
St. Mary's tied the game at 3-3 with three runs in the top of the fourth, but the Lions answered in the bottom half with
Alex Myers scoring on a passed ball.
Albright pushed the lead to 7-3 in the sixth.
Tyler Meckley had an RBI single and Minnig added a sac fly. Franks got a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the seventh to close things out.
A six-run fifth inning carried St. Mary's to an 11-1 decision in Game One. Myers and fellow sophomore
Ben Vitelli were each 2-for-3 in that contest.
Albright is 5-3, and concludes its spring break trip tomorrow with a game against Northwestern College.
