Despite jumping out to a quick 2-0 lead, the Albright College women's lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season with a 21-11 defeat to Muhlenberg College.
Amanda Smith tallied the opener less than two minutes in, and following fellow rookie
Erin Farrell's strike, Albright held a 2-0 lead until five-plus minutes.
The Mules rallied with 13 of the next 14 goals however, including eight unanswered over a 10:24 stretch to open up a lead. After a
Meghan Wilson tally, Muhlenberg closed with the final five points of the half.
Albright played the hosts even (8-8) in the second half, and again scored the opening two goals of the period. Smith scored from Farrell, before
Nicole Rohrbach fed
Tori Meyer to cut the gap to 13-5.
Farrell (2) and Meyer combined for three straight goals midway through the second half to make the score 15-8, the closest Albright would get after halftime.
Smith scored four goals and added three draw controls, while Farrell totaled a hat trick, two assists and three ground balls.
Meyer and Rohrbach scored twice each. Defender
Sarah Nale picked up three ground balls and caused one turnover.
Freshman
Emily Hutson made six saves in the cage for Albright. The Lions are 3-1 on the season.
