Albright Beats Arcadia 14-4 For First Win of Season

Box Score

The Albright College men's lacrosse team was able to get their first victory of the 2013 season as they defeated first year program Arcadia, 14-4 on Saturday in Shirk Stadium.

Arcadia, who is in the same position that Albright was just one season ago, could not hang with the up tempo playing style of the Lions who scored eight unanswered goals to start the game.

The Red and White used a balanced offensive attack throughout the game, using eight players to tally their 14 goals.

The sophomore class led the attack for Albright as Dan Foote and Ryan Turner both had a hat-trick on the day. Turner also had a helper on a first quarter Johnny Moore goal to end the day with four points total.

Albright was also able to benefit from the unselfish play of Phil Potter Saturday afternoon. Potter set up five Albright goals on the day to go along with two goals of his own.

The Lions dominated from the opening whistle as goals from Potter, Turner and Moore gave Albright a quick 5-0 lead after one quarter of play.

The Red and White continued the barrage of goals into the second quarter with three more unanswered goals, as Foote netted two and T.J. Holston added one.

Arcadia was finally able to get onto the board in the second quarter, however as a Kevin Izzo shot squirted through the five hole of goalie Jordan DiZenzo at the 6:38 mark to give the first year program their first goal of the day.

Another goal before halftime gave Arcadia some momentum, but the Lions were able to squash any thoughts of an Arcadia comeback in the second half by outscoring them 6-2 and playing stellar defense.

In goal, DiZenzo (four saves) and sophomore Andrew Torak (six saves) split time, each allowing only two Arcadia goals to reach the back of the net.

With the win, The Lions move to 1-1 overall on the young season. Albright welcomes Immaculata University to Reading next week, March 6th, for a non-conference tilt. Action is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
