Five Lions had multiple goals by halftime as the Albright College women's lacrosse team pulled away for a 21-5 victory at Gwynedd-Mercy on Saturday.
Five Albright players had hat tricks, led by
Meghan Wilson's five goals. She also added six draw controls. Freshman
Tori Meyer had four goals and an assist.
Scoring three goals each were freshmen
Amanda Smith (2 GB, 2 DC, 2 CT),
Rebecca Roman (5 GB, 4 DC, 1 CT) and
Erin Farrell (2 DC, 1 CT). That trio also contributed with one assist each.
The game started slowly with neither team scoring for over five minutes. Farrell did hit the post at 28:02, the first of several pipes that the Lions would hit in the game. She would also hit the crossbar on a free position midway through the game.
Wilson opened the scoring with 24:53 left in the first half, with an assist from Roman. Meyer added one before
Amy Powell answered for GMC to halve the deficit.
Roman, Smith (free position) and Meyer scored three unanswered for Albright, and the Lions would then tally four consecutive goals to take a 9-2 lead with 9:32 remaining before halftime.
Freshman
Lynn Risley tallied with 6:16 remaining to make it 12-3, and Albright had its first double-digit lead when Roman made it 14-4 with 1:01 left before the break.

Emily Hutson made two saves in the final minute of the first half, stopping both
Brianna Greer and Powell.
The Lions held the ball for good portions of the second half, keeping it scoreless for the first eight-plus minutes. Smith made it 15-4, and Roman tacked on another with 20:50 left in the game.
Farrell hit the post yet again with 17:51 remaining, but scored soon afterward for a 17-4 Lion advantage.
Hutson finished with seven saves, while facing 11 shots on goals. Defensively, freshman
Brianna McCormick caused a game-high three turnovers.
Albright improves to 6-1 heading into the Lions' Commonwealth opener, at Hood on Thursday.
