Elizabethtown rallied twice in their final at-bats, as the Albright College baseball team dropped a pair of 7-6 decisions on the road Friday.
After the Blue Jays scored three times in the seventh yesterday at Kelchner Field to break open a tie ballgame, they repeated the feat in a game one, seven-inning victory today. Etown then added four runs in the bottom of the sixth to sweep the series.
In the opener, Albright took a 6-4 lead into the bottom of the seventh and had two out on the board when
Zach Graham came in to close for
Jared Neiheiser. A fielding error opened the door however, and the hosts scored three unanswered runs.
Sean Jones' two-RBI singled tied things up, and he then scored the winning run on
Ryan Haggerty's single.
The Lions had scored four times in the fourth to take the lead.
Gabe Santone singled in
Dylan Boll, and
Tyler Meckley's bases-loaded double brought three more Lions in.
Albright doubled a one-run lead in the top of the sixth, when
Evan High doubled in Santone.
Santone was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Fellow sophomores Boll and
Zac Okonski were both 2-for-4 at the plate.
In game two, Etown overturned a 4-3 deficit with four runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Tyler Weary's two-RBI single highlighted the rally.
Trailing 7-4 in their final ups,
Jared Ruppert led off Albright's comeback attempt with a walk. He would score on Santone's two-RBI hit along with
Nate Peiffer, but the Lions left two on base to come up just short.
Santone was 1-for-3 with two RBIs, while
Collin Hecker was 1-for-2 while knocking in two runs and also drawing a pair of walks. Ruppert (1-for-1) walked and scored twice each.
Albright falls to 8-8, 1-5, and will travel to Penn State-Brandywine on Monday.
