The Albright College baseball team scored 14 runs in the fifth and sixth innings, on the way to a 20-8 victory over host Lancaster Bible on Tuesday.
Junior
Collin Hecker was 3-for-6 with four RBIs and a home run for the Lions. Also homering was Tyler Meckly (2-for-3, 4 RBIs). Sophomore
Gabe Santone was 2-for-3 with four runs scored, while
Dylan Boll and
Evan High had multi-hit games as well.
Freshman
Doug Franks earned the win in relief, pitching three innings. Sophomore
Zach Graham threw a one-hit seventh inning.
Albright trailed 5-4 after four innings (and 5-2 at one point), but exploded in the fifth inning.
Ben Vitelli singled,
Mark Minnig walked and Hecker singled to load the bases. After Vitelli scored on a fielder's choice, Boll doubled in
Max Dundore and Minnig.
High singled in Boll, and two more Lion runners walked home before the Chargers could get out of the inning with Albright now leading 10-5.
The Lions kept rolling in the sixth, with
John Medvecky delivering an RBI single and Vitelli and Minnig earning RBIs on free passes to first base.
With the bases still loaded, Hecker blasted a grand slam to push Albright's lead to 18-8.
Albright had scored twice more in the eighth inning to reach 20 runs, but they were taken off the board after the inning was called due to darkness.
The Chargers did tally 12 hits to Albright's 13.
Matt Taliercio and
Nate Long were both 3-for-4 on the day for LBC.
Albright is 2-1 on the season, and will head to Ft. Pierce, Fla. for spring break next week.
