Box Score
The Albright College women's lacrosse team shut Arcadia out in the second half to record a comeback 12-8 victory, Tuesday in Shirk Stadium.
The Lions trailed 8-6 at halftime but did not allow a goal over the final 32:46 of action, dominating the second half and scoring six goals in that period.
Freshman
Amanda Smith had an outstanding game, totaling four goals, one assist, six ground balls and four caused turnovers. Her six GBs and four CTs both equaled school records, and she won 10 of the game's 22 draw controls (one short of teammate
Meghan Wilson's school record of 11).
Wilson had three goals and four draw controls, while freshman
Erin Farrell also had a hat trick. Freshman
Jordyn Kurtz had three ground balls and forced three turnovers.
Rebecca Sartorio kicked off the second half scoring, and Farrell tied it at 8-8 with 21:47 to play, on the counterattack.
Farrell took it in all alone to give Albright a 9-8 lead, and Smith bounced in a shot to double that advantage with 15:55 left to play.
The Lions scored twice more in a 24 second stretch, with Smith setting up both plays. First the freshman assisted
Nicole Rohrbach, and then fed Farrell with a pass that her fellow rookie eventually finished.
Albright goalie
Emily Hutson (seven saves) stopped Arcadia's
Meghan Fallon late in the game. The Lions forced opposing goalie
Deanna Thompson into 12 saves on the day. The Red and White controlled possession due to a 16-6 advantage in draw controls.
Down 1-0 early in the game, Smith won the draw control and then scored on a free position attempt, tying the contest at 1-1. A Hutson save less than five minutes into the game led to Wilson's goal, off Farrell's feed from behind the cage, and a 2-1 Albright advantage.
With 20:24 left in the first half, Wilson scored shorthanded to tie the game at 3-3. Fallon scored midway through the first half to give Arcadia a 5-4 lead.
With 9:46 left before the break, Hutson saved
Haylee Molloy's free-position shot, and the ensuing clear attempt led to an Arcadia yellow card. Wilson scored on the man advantage to keep Albright close at 6-5 down.
Smith tied things at 6-6 off the draw, but Thompson stopped Rohrbach twice late in the first half and Arcadia opened up an 8-6 halftime lead. Hutson did save
Jessica Santoli from close range in the final seconds of the period.
Albright improves to 2-0 and will host King's College on Saturday.
