Game Two Box
The Albright College baseball team dropped both games of today's doubleheader against Widener, as the Pride completed the series sweep of the Lions.
Game 1 proved to be a pitcher's duel as both starters seemed to cruise, only allowing four hits apiece in 7.0 innings of work.
The Lions' best chance to score came in the second inning after back-to-back singles from
Dylan Boll and
Evan High put runners on first and third with none out. Unfortunately, Widener starter
Nicholas Moeltner was able to get
Max Dundore to pop up and
Zac Okonski to ground into a doubleplay to end the inning.
Albright starter
Alex Myers had a rough second inning as well, giving up a walk and single to start the inning. However, like his counterpart the pitcher was able to work out of the jam, thanks to some help from his defense.
The lone run of the game was scored in the third inning. With two outs and a runner on third Myers struck out
Brendan O'Brien swinging, but the ball got away from Boll allowing the runner from third to advance. Myers pitched well enough to earn the victory, but didn't get the run support as Moeltner blanked the Lions.
Widener jumped out to an early lead in Game 2, scoring five runs off freshman starter
Doug Franks in the first two innings.
The Lions shortened the lead to 3 in the second, plating two runs on an RBI bases loaded fielder's choice by
Gabe Santone and an RBI single by right fielder
Evan High.
That was the closest Albright would come to taking the lead, as the Pride added three more in the fifth en route to a 12-6 victory.
The Lions fell to 11-15 on the season, and 3-11 in conference play. Albright plays again on Tuesday at Messiah; game time is 3:30 p.m.
