The Albright College baseball team was swept by crosstown rival Alvernia on Saturday, 13-4 and 3-1.
Zac Okonski was 2-for-4 in the opener, while fellow sophomore
Gabe Santone was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Transfer sophomore
Evan High was 1-for-2 and scored a run.
Albright got two homers in the fourth inning, as
Collin Hecker and Santone both went deep.
Leon Stimpson led off with a homer for Alvernia, after the Crusaders had knocked five Lion pitches over the fence the day before.
Okonski singled in the top of the second and advanced to third with nobody out on High's double.
Mike Weinhold then struck out three straight however, as the Lions missed a golden chance to bring runs in.
Stimpson spearheaded another scoring inning for Alvernia in the bottom of the frame, singling and advancing to third on the basepaths before
Chris Ray brought him in. The Crusaders then tacked on six runs in the bottom of the third.
In game two, Alvernia led 3-0 until the seventh and final inning, but the Lions rallied against closer
Kevin Becker-Menditto.
Okonski singled;
Brandon Triantos pinch ran for him and came home on an error. Menditto got three straight K's to get out of the jam however.
Okonski was 2-for-3 in the nightcap, while Hecker was 1-for-3. Freshman
Doug Franks pitched a complete game, allowing just five hits and two earned runs despite taking a tough loss.
Albright is 12-19, 3-15, and will face Division II Kutztown University on Monday in the Reading Fightin Phils' FirstEnergy Stadium. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased from players around campus, or at the gates.
