Box Score
Sophomore
Mike Southwick and the Lions took over in the third quarter, as the Albright College men's lacrosse team held off Elizabethtown 11-8 at home.
With the game tied at halftime, Southwick scored and then fed
T.J. Holston at the doorstep, both in the first two minutes of the third.
Southwick later scored on a rip from the right side to make it 7-5 Albright. He had a good look a minute later that was saved, but Holston stripped a Blue Jay on the clear and scored for a three-goal Lion lead.
Holston finished with three goals, one assist, three ground balls and three caused turnovers. Also forcing multiple turnovers were
Joe Devinney (five) and
Mike Donohoe (4 CTs, 5 GBs).
Senior goalie
Jordan DiZenzo stopped 13 shots, while sophomore
Darian Meador caused two turnovers and picked up 10 ground balls as the Lions turned in another solid defensive effort.
A slow first half ended with a flurry as the Blue Jays tallied three times in the final 1:49, and twice in the final nine seconds.
After
Jimmy Waters had made it 4-3 Albright,
Craig Hunsberger won the draw and fired it in at the buzzer to send the teams into the locker rooms knotted at 4-4.
The Lions' only second quarter goal came from Meador, who answered right after an Elizabethtown man-up strike. All four second period tallies were scored in the final two minutes.
Albright had a great start when the Blue Jays didn't switch quickly enough as
Justin Brown came into the offensive zone for Meador, leaving the sophomore open to feed
Andrew Poitras. Brown then assisted
Philip Potter for a 2-0 Lion lead.
Matthew Lomady's shot up high made it 3-0 after less than six minutes, and it could have more as Potter fed Poitras at the back doorstep but
Andrew Wenger made a great recovery save.
Wenger was called into action again late in the first quarter. He stopped Potter point blank and then across the face of goal to stone
Ryan Turner on the rebound. Wenger then blocked a Poitras shot from the middle.
Potter looked to have made it 4-2 Albright with three minutes left in the second quarter, but stepped in the crease. DiZenzo saved
Nick Thompson seconds later on a quick Elizabethtown counterattack.
Albright improves to 11-2, 5-1 and will complete a previously suspended game on Monday at Lebanon Valley.
