The Albright College baseball team played some good defense against a nationally-ranked DII opponent, losing 6-1 to #27 Kutztown in their annual matchup at FirstEnergy Stadium.
Senior
Vinny Morgan drew two walks, while
Dylan Boll,
Zac Okonski and
Gabe Santone recorded the Lions' three hits on the day.
In the bottom of the fourth, senior left fielder
Jared Ruppert made a good diving catch for the first out. He then went fully out-stretched to snare a gapper with the tip of his glove, ending the inning with one of Albright's defensive plays of the year.
Trailing 4-0 in the bottom of the second, the Lions turned a double-play to get out of the stanza.
Freshman
Brandon Triantos scored Albright's lone run in the fifth inning, stealing second and advancing to third on a throwing error before scoring on
Max Dundore's ground out.
Albright stranded two runs on multiple occasions, including leading Morgan and Okonski on second and third in the top of the second inning. Boll and Morgan reached base in the fourth and Ruppert gave the ball a good ride, but the Kutztown centerfielder ran the ball down.
The Golden Bears did most of their damage in a four-run first inning.
Kyle Stoudt tripled in
Travis Kreitz in the bottom of the third as Kutztown added two more.
Aaron Forker was nearly perfect in three no-hit relief innings, walking one batter.
Albright is 12-20 on the season, and will host Ursinus College on Wednesday afternoon.
