Game Two Box
The Albright College baseball team split their final doubleheader of the season against Stevenson today, recording an 11-5 win and 6-3 loss.
In game one, the Lions jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when
Nate Peiffer singled and
Collin Hecker drove him in on a double.
Stevenson answered back with a run in the bottom of the first and second innings, taking the lead 2-1 off pitcher
Alex Myers.
In the top of the third inning Albright regained the lead, scoring three runs on two hits and two errors.
David Cotellese led off the rally with a single and later scored when Hecker reached on an error. Senior
Tyler Meckley provided a key bunt single, moving Cotellese and Peiffer into scoring position.
The game then went scoreless until the top of the fifth inning, when Albright's offense exploded for five runs to increase their lead to 11-2. Peiffer, Meckley, and Hecker continued their multi-hit days at the plate, all providing base-knocks in the inning. In addition, sophomores
Zac Okonski and
Max Dundore each supplied two-RBI doubles.
Although Stevenson replied with three runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth, the Lions' 11-5 lead was too great to overcome. Myers earned the win on the mound for Albright.
In game two, it was Stevenson's offense that jumped out to a lead that was never relinquished.
After Stevenson scored one run in the bottom of the second, Albright retaliated with a run of their own in the top of the third. Following singles by Meckley and Okonski,
Gabe Santone issued his own to tie the ballgame.
In the bottom of the third, Stevenson's offense took over the game and never looked back. The Mustangs tallied one run in the third, two in the fourth, and two in the fifth off Albright's
Doug Franks and
Ryan McGoff.
A comeback looked possible after a Meckley two-RBI triple in the seventh, but Stevenson's lead proved too costly for the Lions as they eventually fell 6-3, ending their season.
The Albright Lions finish the 2013 season with an overall record of 13-22 and 4-17 in conference play.
